Members looking to deliver the industry’s key priorities to Congress should attend the most important grassroots event of the year: the 2019 Legislative Conference on Wednesday, June 5.

The conference is a day-long event that coincides with the NAHB’s Spring Leadership Meeting in Washington, D.C.

Members are encouraged to travel to the nation’s capital to urge their representatives and senators to make progress on several key issues, including:

  • Government-sponsored enterprise (GSE) reform
  • National Flood Insurance Program
  • Workforce and labor
  • Trade and the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement
  • Low-Income Housing Tax Credit
  • Building energy codes

Due to the changing congressional calendar, not all members of Congress will be available to meet in the afternoon on Wednesday, June 5. If your schedule allows, and your senators or representative are available, we encourage members to schedule meetings as early as the afternoon of Tuesday, June 4. NAHB’s Leadership Meetings will conclude by 1:30 p.m. on June 4 to support Hill visits.

The Legislative Conference issues briefing and breakfast will take place the morning of June 5 at the Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill. Bus transportation will be provided from the Marriott Wardman Park, where the Spring Leadership Meeting is taking place, to the Hyatt Regency. The hotel is a short walk to the offices of your members of Congress.

To help you prepare for the Legislative Conference, the NAHB Government Affairs team will provide a variety of resources, including a webinar recording and video updates of the key issues to discuss during your visits, as well as a brochure you can give to your members of Congress. All of these materials will be posted on nahb.org/legcon.

A strong builder turnout on June 5 will send a powerful message to members of Congress that housing must remain a top national priority.
